Off to a blustery start on June 11th 2004 Dungarvan Farmers Market was born in Scanlon’s Yard, with huge public support.
In December, with the support from the council and local traders, we were elevated to our present location in Grattan Square.
With continued and very loyal support from our regulars, the market has become an important part of the food chain in Dungarvan, already famous for its fabulous eateries.
The Good Practice Standard for Farmers’ Markets was launched in June 2009 and to date 34 markets in Ireland including Dungarvan Farmers Market have successfully met the criteria of the code, these markets were announced by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries & Food following two waves of assessment in 2009. Waterford Festival of Food was launched in April 2008 and is is based largely around the town of Dungarvan. The festival finished on a high with the market which took over the whole of Grattan square. Including all the Thursday market traders as well as many more food producers from the County of Waterford. The festival is now in its fourth year and is proving to be a major mark on the festival calendar.
